education for the future
Education should prepare Australians for life — not political agendas. The Australian Centre Party supports a modern, fair, and future-focused education system that prioritises literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and digital capability. We back school funding based on need, greater investment in teacher quality, and an end to ideological battles in the curriculum. Education reform must be practical, not performative — and focused on giving every child the tools to succeed in a rapidly changing economy and society.

Equipping Australians with the skills to thrive in a changing world

Australia's education system is under strain. While dedicated teachers and schools work hard every day, outcomes are slipping, inequities are widening, and classrooms are becoming battlegrounds for political and cultural agendas. The Australian Centre Party believes it’s time to refocus on what matters: giving every Australian student the skills and knowledge to thrive in a fast-changing world.

We support a national commitment to literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and digital capability as core educational priorities — assessed regularly and taught with proven methods. Rather than chasing fads or politicising content, we will elevate learning that builds independence, adaptability, and problem-solving.

We advocate for needs-based funding across all school sectors — public, independent, and faith-based — to ensure that no student is disadvantaged because of where they live, what their parents earn, or the school they attend. Funding should follow need, not politics.

Improving teacher recruitment, retention, and development is a top priority. We will support higher entry standards for teaching degrees, expand mentoring programs for new teachers, and offer performance-based incentives in hard-to-staff schools and regions. Great teaching changes lives — and should be recognised and supported accordingly.

We also support the depoliticisation of curriculum development. The national curriculum should be overseen by an independent, expert-led standards body, with input from educators, employers, and academics — not politicians or activists. Education is too important to be a political football.

In the tertiary sector, we support a smarter, more responsive approach to university and vocational training. That includes funding high-demand industries (such as healthcare, digital, engineering, and trades), supporting pathways from school to TAFE or university, and cutting red tape for micro-credentials and lifelong learning programs.

Unlike the ideological Left, we do not believe in imposing social theory at the expense of core competencies. Unlike the culture-war Right, we do not weaponise education to stoke division or fear. We stand for clarity, excellence, and purpose — and we believe the future of education lies in empowering learners, not politicising them.
